I attended the Beginner Street Photography Workshop with CJ Swaby last week and would recommend it for aspiring street photographers.
I am new to street photography and so a 3-hr workshop in the West End sounded like a good introduction. And so it proved. CJ was knowledgeable, attentive and helpful. The group were shooting on DSLRs and, like me, on mobiles, and CJ catered for all of us, helping us navigate the appropriate settings on whatever cameras we had.
There was a good balance of theory and practice, exploring camera settings, lighting and composition, etiquette and laws, and throughout the day CJ gave us individual feedback on the shots we were taking.
We started off at the Photographer's Gallery off Oxford Street, made our way down Carnaby Street and headed into Chinatown. CJ knew these areas like the back of his hand, pointing out interesting locations and features that you wouldn't ordinarily notice. He suggested ideas for shots and let us get on with it.
We covered a lot of ground and I saw what I thought were familiar streets in a new light and with fresh eyes. CJ evidently has respect for his art and for the subjects and city around him.
Not only did CJ help me understand the capabilities of my camera better, but he also gave me a deeper appreciation for street photography, and a sense of excitement to get back out there and take more shots of the streets of London.
Highly recommended. A great workshop run by a great guy.

I attended Cj's street photography for beginners course on 26 July.

Meeting at the Photographer's Gallery was good for the restricted group size, ensuring it was personable and also enabling group interaction. The introduction to the course was informative, covering many of the basics of camera control and explaining the scope of the course, providing an easy introduction to the genre of street photography. Cj took the time to understand everyone's needs and objectives before heading onto the street and reinforcing the basic lessons in a quiet area.

Once the basics had been covered we then ventured through Carnaby Street and into China Town. We enjoyed regular breaks to recap and set new challenges. Cj at all times was calm, understanding and massively informative, bringing many practical lessons into the areas we visited.

Despite the range of competencies and variety of cameras/phones being used, everyone was given personal time as well as wider group discussion. A great teacher with a wealth of experience. Highly recommended!!

Excellent beginner street photography session. CJ is a natural communicator and skilled at using his experience to break down complex theory and jargon and make sense of it. Really focusses on what you want to get out of each session and improve. Thanks so much! 10/10 would recommend
